Substitution called!

So I completely ignored my to-do list when I came across this pattern.

Image from Vallieskids Blog

I made it in my size and in all black.

But before I take a pic I have to decide if I want to do the buttons like the pattern calls for, or put a flower on one side to make it a bit more girl-y.

Decisions, decisions.

To do list

Well the first thing on my to-do list is to update this blog. Check!

Other items on my list...

- finish stenciling the canvas
- finish the purse for my friends little girl
- finish the pillow for another friends little girl
- finish the quilt square for joint project

And much less fun...

- do laundry

What's on your to-do list?

Sweet dreams!

I like my current bedding.

Its bright, its cheerful, but I wanted a change. I just wasn't sure what I wanted to change to.

Well NOW I do thanks to Lonny Mag and Garnet Hill!

*swoon*

I am...

In my search for new blogs to read I came across this post and wanted to play along.

You can play along too! Post your answers on your blog or leave the link in comments.

Ready? Set? Go!

I am... hopeful that my new job is just waiting for me around the corner.

I think... I'm on the verge of "finding myself".

I should... make an effort to get to bed at a decent hour tonight.

I dream... often. And I listen to my dreams if my brain thinks its important enough to remember them.

I want... a lot of things. But I have most of what I need...so I try to be thankful.

I know... that things can only get better from here on out.

I don't like... feeling lost.

I smell... the scent in the cool night air.

I hear... the hum of my fan in the background.

I fear... letting fear control my life.

I search...for my place in the world.

I miss... my mother. Daily.

I always... pick up my kitten and kiss her on top of her head.

I crave... sushi!

I remember... how simple things seemed in university.

I need... a fabulous night out with the girls!

I forget... my shopping list. Almost every time.

I feel... lucky to have such great friends (new and old).

I can... be anything I want to be. (I just need to remind myself of this OFTEN)

I can't... regret trying.

I am happy... that today was a good day.

I listen... to music that makes me smile and want to dance!

I shop... in the little shops near my building.

I eat... rosti!

I love... that I have an outlet like this.

Blog rolling

I finally put all of my blog reads into Google Reader and I couldn't be happier! I'm not sure why it took me so long to do it. I like having a visual list on who's updated so its to easier to go through and see what's new!

Now I'm on the hunt for fabulous new (to me) blogs.

So far, I've added a couple to my list:

Grace Violet

Check out the super cute lunch tote she made for herself
(out of a reusable shopping bag)!

The itch!

I'm dying to crochet something!

Ok..I'm dying to knit something but knitting has not come as easy to me as crochet did. So I'll settle for crochet for now.

So when I came across this picture, I said "Ooh I have to make that!".

Cute right? And so appropriate for fall.

And this website went ahead and made her own pattern for it. So I'm all set!

Except...I don't have the yarn at the moment, nor can I go out to get the yarn yet. So its on my to-do list for now.

Now to find a pattern for something I can make with that I have in my stash.

Crafty Kitty

When looking for a little bundle of fur to share my home with I knew I wanted a social kitty.

Well...be careful what you wish for. :)

Molly likes to be wherever I am, doing whatever I'm doing.

So its really not a surprise that Molly has a crafty side to her.

She just won't listen when I tell her that reaching the pedal is going to be problem.

Beginner Bias Tape Bag

I'm in no way a beginner to sewing...but bias tape...I hate it.

So when a pattern calls for me use bias tape, I do not immediately jump for joy and say I have to try it.

But look how cute this bag is!!

Picture and pattern from Prudent Baby

It also had the word "beginner" in the title, so how hard could it be?!

Turns out, not very hard at all! (though I am by no means a bias tape pro...I can still see the the stitching I shouldn't be able to see...but anyway.)

I bought the fabric to make a pillow for a friends daughter (another work in progress) but decided to use some of it for a bag for another friends daughter. Minus a couple of minor errors (one handle is longer than the other..oops...I think I can fix it lol), I'm REALLY pleased with it and would love to make one for myself now.

I know I said in another post that the best camera is the camera you have on hand...well I lied. I hate the quality of my Blackberry photos so I need to get a new battery charger soon!

The blank canvas

I've been staring at a blank canvas I bought for months. I thought I just wanted to wrap it in some great big bold patterned fabric but that never happened either.

That blank canvas was starting to become *really* intimidating!

I knew that my living room needed an infusion of red, so from there I decided a big bold stencil pattern in red would work.

I dug around online and found a few that I liked and tried my hand at making my own stencils. Its not as time consuming as I thought it would be and freezer paper works really really well.

Its still a work in progress so I'm TRYING not to pass judgment until its done.

When kittens attack

It was nice to have my windows open over the long weekend but with it being unseasonably cool, I had to rethink my usual bum around the house outfit.

Fuzzy socks and a sweatshirt were necessary today.

Though....I may have to rethink the fuzzy socks.

I just know I would have been in Gryffindor!

I finally responded to my invitation and got to the Harry Potter exhibit *just* before it left the Ontario Science Centre. It was pretty amazing to see some of the sets, props and costumes from all the movies.

Next stop HAS to be the Harry Potter Theme Park!

I can taste the butter beer already!

This video made by a fan makes me want to go even more. Enjoy!

Minor technical difficulties can't stop me!

So I wanted to start blogging again. And I wanted to blog about the things I make. I like to blog with pictures, so when I discovered my dead camera battery and no charger I felt like I had to delay on the blogging because I couldn't take pictures of the crafty things I want to make.

Yeah well, if I go with that train of thought, I'll likely never blog again. Besides, I heard that from the BlogHER conference this year someone said the perfect camera is the camera you have. So if that means my pics for a while will be taken with my Blackberry, so be it!

THIS is what I want to make next...

Isn't it purdy?!

The beautiful pics of the finished product and the free pattern are available on this website.

Amazingly enough, I have the fabric I want to use in stock. So my tight budget at the moment can't be an excuse for not working on it this weekend.

My crafty skills are a bit rusty....and my sewing machine is a bit dusty....so wish me luck!
